Pittsburgh Institute Held Online Parents Meeting for Class of 2022 Successfully

Sichuan University-Pittsburgh Institute (SCUPI) held Parent Meeting for Class of 2022 via online approach on March 26th. SCUPI leadership and representative staff members attended the meeting and gave detailed introduction on the Institute’s teaching, management, training pattern, student support, etc. The participating leadership and staff also addressed student-related questions raised by parents. The meeting was hosted by Jen Yang, Student Counsellor for Class of 2022.
The meeting kicked off by an opening remark, delivered by Professor Minking Chyu, Dean of SCUPI. Dean Chyu first welcomed all of the parents and presented the development and mission of SCUPI. He said that in the past few years, the Institute gained remarkable reputation for our educational quality and student achievements. One of the major advantages of the Institute is that we introduce the curriculum system, faculty and high-quality educational resources of world-class universities, and adopts an all-English teaching approach, which are key to students’ English proficiency, horizon of eyesight, and integration with the world. It is to our sincere hope that the Class of 2022 can leverage the platform of the Institute and move towards their dreams.
TZ Mai, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Ye Li, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, gave brief presentation on SCUPI teaching operation and student management, respectively. Dean Mai introduced some of Institute’s teaching mechanisms, including Office Hour and course quality round table, that serve to improve teaching effectiveness and learning outcomes. He also emphasized the importance of academic norms and integrity. Dean Li talked about the Institute’s care on students’ mental health and academic pressure, and called on parents to cooperate with the Institute over the issues above.
Academic Administrator Ms. Mia Jia analysed the academic performance of the 2022 students over Fall 2022. Ms. Jia emphasized the importance of academic performance in the freshman year, and also reminded students to utilize learning resources like Office Hours or teaching assistants.
Career Advisor Ms. Rita Luosang introduced SCUPI learning resources and navigated around academic and employment advising service. She also gave suggestions on freshman study, including all-round exploration, self-awareness, social practice, and language learning.
Advisor from Office of Study Abroad Ms. Grace Wang focused on the application process of transfer study. Ms. Wang emphasized academic performance and language requirements, and recommended early preparation for TOEFL/IELTS in freshmen and sophomore year.
Student Counselor Ms. Jen Yang presented on student management and campus events. Starting from the basics of the Class, Ms. Yang gave introduction in terms of academic assistance, behavioral norms, mental health, etc,. Ms. Yang also encouraged students to participate in a campus events.
In the Q&A session, the participating teachers answered the questions raised by the parents, and further introduced the institute. During their final speech, the institute’s leadership emphasized that the abundant learning resources provided by SCUPI will help students continuously improve their abilities and become exceptional talents with an international perspective and innovative mindset. Additionally, parents are encouraged to stay engaged with their children’s academic progress and campus life. School-home connection will promote students’ development with support and encouragement from both sides.
